Sakura is the founder of three fabulous events bringing kinksters together. From Femdom to kitty play, BDSM inspired goth nights to a sub-sorting hat, Sakura is all about providing unique and safe experiences for people to play out their fantasies.
Sitting down with JOYclub ambassador, Bethany Burgoyne, Sakura discusses the importance of social events and how her approach is all about welcoming and supporting kinksters, new and old. Sakura’s events are as diverse as they are specific. Starting with Club Femdom, she explains how this event is created for femme presenting Doms to meet and play with masc presenting subs. “Think high class, strict protocol, wear your best frock”. Explaining how the rules require subs to be collared and “not sit on the furniture”, Club Femdom is all about creating an atmosphere of fancy chandelier-lit BDSM. With a sub-sorting hat and onsight house Doms, Sakura aims for all attendees to feel supported in exploring and harnessing their skills to create powerful D/s dynamics whether their solo or partnered, new or experienced.
Club Sakura on the other hand is all about creating space for folks interested in BDSM with an alternative, grungy twist. Maintaining an alternative/goth music policy, Sakura explains how “you can definitely see a slice of Sakura in that event… People tend to dress a bit more goth and alternative. It’s a very social event, we also have workshops there so it’s fantastic for people starting out in the scene”. For Sakura, starting Club Sakura from the ground up and catering to a group of people she resonated with has been extra special, explaining how “seeing it grow into a bigger event has been lovely. It’s a venue with lots of different spaces, so walking around and seeing everyone playing, having a blast and thinking ‘I've created that space for people’ is really special”.

Sakura’s final event is Pet Players, designed for people interested in exploring their sub sides as kittens/puppies and for Doms (known as handlers in this scene) to meet and play. “It is so cute; at the last event we had a whole bunch of kitties sleeping. And then we had a ball pit fight with the puppies - it was the most childish silly fun but we were having the best time”. These moments are what makes the experience so special for Sakura. “That’s the fantastic thing about running events where you will have these moments that you weren’t expecting but leaning into it because it’s safe, fun and positive”. For Pet Players, the venue Sakura uses has a sex and nudity license which allows for an uncensored space of playing, whereas Club Femdom and Club Sakura are strictly no sex and no nudity. When discussing house rules, Sakura advises all attendees to read up on the specific regulations before arriving so you know the protocol.
Having been on the scene for 18 years, Sakura credits her own first experience of attending a BDSM event for being her gateway into the world of kink and fetish. “When I first came onto the scene I felt so welcomed and it was that first night that inspired me to start running events myself because I wanted people to have the experience that I had”. Sakura explains how “people need these spaces…It can be that relinquishing of control and handing it over to someone in that space. The amount of trust and connection that requires can be really empowering for the dom and the submissive - it can fulfill a need.” Welcoming everyone, whatever their experience or relationship status, Sakura reassures that “We’re here to answer any questions because I want people to figure out whether or not it’s something they want to enjoy and engage in”.
When discussing the evolution of Sakura’s three parties, she tells us how many sex-positive events disappeared post lockdown, with organisers closing their doors - including the original founders of Club Femdom. Sakura was approached with the idea of bringing the night back to life and continuing running the event. Seeing a real need for folks to get together and meet, Sakura took on the challenge and started working with a close knit team to bring Club Femdom back for eager Doms and subs wanting to engage in play. Reflecting on the first Club Femdom she was in charge of, Sakura tells us how she credits it for being one of the best feelings. “Bringing Club Femdom back, that first night, I was stood there watching everyone enjoy themselves and I could see how happy they were. That’s going to stick with me forever, that was such a special moment. Thinking, all this hard work I’ve put in getting it here, it happened”.
